Hike to Kamiak Butte

Since it was such a beautiful Memorial Day yesterday, Eric and I decided to call up some friends and go on a hike to Kamiak Butte (no, not butt) :) It was a nice hike, only about 3.5 miles, so pretty short, but long enough! :) About 1/2 way up we stopped to find a geochache using our GPS. Here is Eric looking for it....

And here is where we found it. Important note: I found it first! :) Inside the box was all kinds of random things and the logbook, which we signed and then went on our merry way!

Here is the view from the top...not much to see but wheatfields, but it was pretty all the same. Crazy how far you can see when there are no mountains or trees to block the way! We ate dinner up here at the top (a delicious walnut pesto and whole wheat rotini with homemade giant pretzels and potato salad!) and then continued down.

Huck came along too. He is quite a hiker and enjoys it more than we do I think! :) He helps pull me up the hills sometimes too ;)

This is Jacob and Cheryl, the friends that we went with! They took a picture of us on their camera and we took one of them on ours...so i figured I'd put theirs up instead! :)

All in all it was a beautiful day and a beautiful hike (with real trees!) with friends! We came back home for creme brulee and a game of bocce ball in the park by our house! Yeah for summer!

Project updates!

I promised mom that I would put some updated pictures of our bathroom up here so the improvement can be seen. This picture is midway through the tiling project...it wasn't too bad actually. :)
(Do you see the counter under all the junk in this picture? That ugly brownish/tan mix is what used to be in the bath tub as well)

Here is the new and much improved shower! Doesn't the blue look nice! :)

The shower itself is finished, now we are just working on mudding/painting the walls around the areas we had to rip out. :) Hopefully it will be done by this weekend and I'll have finished pictures to show!

Que sera, sera!

So, I went to give the dog a bath yesterday and we wound up with a rather huge, messy problem instead! Mid-way through the bath, I noticed a large puddle of water forming on the floor of the bathroom. NEVER a good sign, right? Well, minutes later we find more problems....namely, mold and a leak. 24 hours later....this is where we're at!

Here is a sneak preview of where we are going...

The main problem in all of this is that we only have one, yes ONE bathroom in our house. No showers for the next few days! So don't come too close...we might smell! :)

Bloomsday!

Eric and I decided that we would "athletic" this year and do the bloomsday run/walk in Spokane. It's a 7.46 mile course with at least one rather long hill in the middle of it (almost a mile long in itself). We started at about 9:45 in the morning...along with 45,000 other people...minus the "elite" runners who started at 9 and had already finished by the time we started. :)

We ran the first 2 miles, then walked a little bit and ran off and on again after that...overall we probably ran about 4 miles total. (Not bad for rarely running). It was a lot of fun to run the course with thousands of other people...some of whom were in strange costumes (think gorilla suit with pink underwear and star wars characters). There were all kinds of bands playing along the road the whole way which made the time go much faster! Not to mention the random people sitting in lawn chairs in their yards or on the side of the road cheering us all on. Very encouraging folks! :)

Overall, we had a great time and ended up finished in 1:48:40 (I beat Eric by one second :)) This is a picture of us at home later that night in our "finisher" tshirts! :) It's pretty safe to say that I haven't been that sore in a LONG time! But it was worth it! Maybe we'll actually train for it more next year and finish with a better time! Wanna come??

Yeah we made it!!
